Tourist figures during April on the French Riviera decreased 11 % compared with April 2017
Bad weather and social movements have halted the positive trend observed since the beginning of the year on the Côte d'Azur. While she was on very beautiful bases, the tourist frequentation on the Côte d'Azur stalled in the month of April. Overnight stays in hotels and residences decreased by 5% and 11% respectively compared to the same period a year earlier. It is better for the Nice Côte d'Azur airport where the volume of "visitors planes" is down 12%, compared to April 2017. The CRT Côte d'Azur explains this phenomenon by two factors: the bad weather this early spring and social movements at SNCF or at Air France. "Tourism is a buoyant and expanding market, but it remains very sensitive to global and national contexts," notes David Lisnard, newly re-elected president of CRT Côte d'Azur France . This is confirmed this spring, since the significant gain in attendance since the beginning of the year has been partially lost, in a context of social movements in France and less favourable weather conditions. Still according to the CRT, it is mainly the French visitors who cancelled or postponed their trip, or -10% for the French shopping nights. The foreign presence, it remains supported. " In the first four months of 2018, we see a double-digit rise for Britain, Russia, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific, with in particular a return of the Japanese and an increase in US attendance. 30% in each of the first months of 2018. "Good news at the beginning of the summer season for which the outlook remains favourable. If the CRT reports a slight deficit of hotel reservations for the months of May and June, it observes a 5% advance for international air reservations to the French Riviera.
