In less then two years, line 2 will connect the port of Nice to the airport and to Cadam, to the west. A line of 11.3 km, with 20 stations (four underground). To do this, he will leave the Cassini quay (below the Ile-de-Beauté square) and will cross the city, via an underground first (until the rue de France) and then outdoors. Arrived at Arenas, the line will be divided in two: one section will go to the Administrative Center and the Nikaia Palace, the other will serve the two terminals of the airport. The 19 trains on the line should take 26 minutes to make ends meet. -- Since the October Metropolitan Council, it has become impossible to calculate the exact cost of the east-west line: lines 2 and 3 have become one and the same line budget. Initially (ie in 2009), a budget of 450 million euros was mentioned and was already debated. But since then, the route has evolved, and the cost of the site too. The latest estimates would be closer to 780 million euros, including at least 270 for the underground only. A sum (to a few million) on which Christian Estrosi was quickly committed, and that the opposition has always challenged, evoking a bill to more than one billion euros. Called to choose between several models, the people of Nice voted for an ocher tram. A color inspired "by the local architectural heritage", according to the metropolis. Built by Alstom, it was designed by French designer Ora-ïto Last year, welcoming the choice of an underground route, Christian Estrosi estimated that 140,000 passengers will take the east-west line daily. The underground route costs 110 million euros more than the route initially envisaged on the Promenade Des Anglais But the commercial speed of the tram will be 25 km / h instead of 14 for a surface route, or 26 minutes between the port and the airport instead of 50. This will transport 140,000 people per day instead of 70,000, " he said in April 2016. This is estimated to be about 20,000 fewer cars driving each day on the east-west axis.
